Male patient a new global approach
Dr. Giorgio P. Astolfi
In the last few years, Aesthetic Surgery/Aesthetics Medicine has shown a strong growth around the world. Analysis of market data shows how attitude and approach of patients has changed dramatically over last 10-15 years.
Patients are nowadays more informed about products and methods of Aesthetic Medicine; furthermore they need quick, effective and safe solutions.
The most requested treatments are: Botulinum toxin, fillers, chemical peels and laser resurfacing.
Every patient should be assessed individually. Based on personal characteristics (history, genetics, ethnicity, morphology, photos and chronoaging, lifestyle etc), we can now consider different approaches in relation to age or sex (volumetric restructuring, full face rejuvenation).
Due to historical, social and even cultural reasons, male patient approaches Aesthetic Medicine with greater doubts, although this trend is gradually decreasing.
Obviously, Aesthetic Physicians know the male approach is different from that female one, in terms of natural effects, volumetric restructuring and beauty enhancement.
According to the patient’s age, we may summarize aesthetic practises with the following prospectus:
3rd decade
• biorevitalization (through the use of HA not linked, amino acids, vitamins, mineral salts, etc.)
• LED Cycles therapy
4th and 5th decade and beyond
• Use of fillers to reduce the loss of volume, especially in zygomatic malar region to correct wrinkles of expression; Redefining and reinforcing the outline and mandibular angle (very effective use of calcium hydroxyapatite because of its special features)
• Botulinum toxin for glabellar wrinkles correction
• PRP to stimulate collagen and counteract elastosis
• Laser treatments couperose, solar lentigo, keratosis etc. where necessary, peelings, LED therapy aimed at the improvement of the texture and brightness of the face.
Materials and methods used are :
– Calcium hydroxyapatite for zygomatic malar area, nose-geniene folds, wrinkles of expression, jaw contouring, chin, nose, temporal region;
– Hyaluronic acid to redefine the contour and volume of the lips;
– Botulinum toxin for the treatment of glabellar wrinkles, chin, nose;
– KTP Laser, CO2, Q Switch 532
– Peels: depending on the characteristics of the epidermis
Results are immediate with filler treatments, short term with botulinum toxin, and medium term with Laser, peelings etc.
A general assessment of the face and the use of combined procedures and safe products will achieve excellent aesthetic results in the short term without major inconvenience for our patients.
In conclusion, beauty and attractiveness of the face is linked to a balance of volume proportions and the health of our skin: our practises should move towards that direction.
