Face and neck minilift

Upon returning from the summer holidays, after the disappearance of a tan, we find ourselves with a few more wrinkles caused by too much exposure to the sun; this makes us want to give ourselves a ‘touch up’ to the face, to make us feel better.

We spoke today with our expert, professor Marco Gasparotti, Professor of Aesthetic Surgery in some of the most prestigious Italian universities, who has developed a minimally invasive technique, which allows fast treatment times in both clinic and operating room and a rapid return to activity.
Minilifting is an operation which corrects the relaxation of the face and neck and restores freshness and tone to skin and muscles.
It is preferably performed on 40-year-olds, or even earlier after a major weight loss Today the need to feel ‘in good condition’ also affects men, and so many of them, generally between 45 and 50, ask to be operated on.

Moreover, as I just said, this type of surgery is fairly quick, meaning that just one night of hospitalization and a few days of rest at home are required to be able to return to a social and working life, and all types of activities.
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia after routine blood tests, a venous Doppler of the lower limbs, chest radiograph and ECG with cardiac examination. It lasts just two hours and does not involve any type of post-operative pain or problem. A well-done facelift leaves thin and invisible scars, completely hidden inside the ear and therefore well borne even by men with short hair. A compression bandage must be worn for  48 hours after the operation. On the sixth day, some of the stitches are removed, while the last ones are removed on the twelfth day; these are however completely hidden in the hair and are therefore invisible. After 5-6 days of rest the patient can resume work and social activities, except for the sauna, pool, gym and vigorous exercise. Sometimes a facial mini-lifting is associated with a blepharoplasty for the rejuvenation of the eyes. This operation lasts a further half hour, and can, of course, be done separately from the minilifting, if the problem is restricted to fallen eyelids and/or bags under the eyes. In this case, a day hospital is enough.
I always recommend relying on experienced hands, and specialists in Plastic,

Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (www.sicpre.org) working in qualified and well-equipped facilities and in the presence of an anaesthesiologist, to avoid complications that generally are very rare. Today’s lifestyle changes with the increased attention to nutrition, fitness, and youthful looks, have brought about, besides an increase in life expectancy the desire to feel good with yourself and with others up to an age once considered quite advanced.
The 70 year old  lady who up to twenty or thirty years ago only played the role of grandmother, today, in most cases, still  has a quite active social life and often comes to my surgery to ask me to ‘freshen her up’. If tests are normal and the lady is in a good general state of health, then, why not help her feel better about herself?
A mini-lifting of the face and neck, if done well, it is unnoticeable and people will comment ‘how well you look … you look rested … have you been on holiday?”.
This procedure does not distort the patient’s features and it lasts for years …. in short, it growsold with us !!!!
