In 1863 Luigi Manzi, having discovered the exceptional properties of the \u201cGurgitello\u201d spring, decided to build a thermal centre which would provide treatment and relaxation in a luxurious and elegant environment. Even Giuseppe Garibaldi, \u201cThe hero of the two worlds\u201d, treated his wounds from the battle of Aspromonte in the fight for a United Italy at the Terme Manzi. In 1960 the Terme Manzi Hotel was purchased and renovated by the famous Italian editor Angelo Rizzoli who, because of his great love for
\nthe island of Ischia, contributed to introducing it to the silver screen and the international \u201cJet set\u201d.
